Where to Go Apple Picking in New York State

It’s officially fall in NYC, which kicks off apple picking season in the Northeast. Whether you want to venture out in nature for the perfect date with your loved one or grab a bunch of friends to pick fresh fruit and enjoy cider, apple picking should be on at the top of your list of fall activities in NYC. The New York area is rich with orchards, and we rounded up some of the best places in the tristate area for apple picking, hay riding, and taking in the beautiful fall weather. Here are our 5 favorite spots for apple picking in New York:

Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard (North Salem, NY)

Just outside of New York City is Harvest Moon Farm & Orchard. This family owned orchard has an annual fall festival with hayrides, apple cider donuts, apple picking, and other fall favorites.

Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery (Warwick, NY)

For an adults-only trip, Warwick Valley Winery & Distillery offers a variety of blended wines as well as a selection of hard ciders, apple and pear brandies, apple picking, tastings, and more. Although the winery is open year round, venture up to the foothills of the Hudson Valley for a booze-worthy day trip with friends (just be sure to have a designated driver).

Applewood Orchards & Winery (Warwick, NY)

This orchard is a foodie’s paradise. Choose from 10 different kinds of apples, pick a pumpkin, or shop at the general store that offers numerous jams and jellies. Bring the kids, too. If you’re looking for the best fall activities near New York, Applewood Orchards & Winery offers weekend hayrides, puppet shows, live chickens, bunnies, and other fun activities.

Love Apple Farm (Ghent, NY)

For those who want to pick more than apples this fall, head up to Love Apple Farm. You can find peaches, plums, melons, and tomatoes on this 80-acre farm. Love Apple Farm also makes for a great family-friendly trip with animals, a petting zoo, and an old-fashioned ice cream shop, which serves sundaes made from Love Apple Farm’s own fruit.

Greig Farm (Red Hook, NY)

For picturesque views of the Catskill Mountains, the Greig Farm  is the place to visit. Pick apples, grab plants at the greenhouse, and stroll through the pumpkin patch. Greig Farm also has goats behind Gigi Market that you can hand-feed!
