Five Great Packing Tips for Your Next Business Trip

For corporate travelers who spend a lot of time on the road, knowing how to pack efficiently is essential. Business trip packing can be tough—from looking polished, not forgetting anything important, and keeping your luggage light, it’s not always a walk in the park. Fear not—packing doesn’t have to be your worst nightmare anymore. Here are a few business traveler tips to help you pack like a pro.

Make a plan

Although this may be an obvious thing to do, plan smartly about what to pack.  Business trip packing starts with reviewing your itinerary to make a list of what you’ll need to bring. Then,  stick to it. This way you’ll have an idea of what to bring before you start throwing too many random things in your suitcase.

Roll it up

Once you figure out what you’re bringing on your trip, figure out how you’re going to pack your pieces. Instead of traditionally folding clothes, rolling clothes up can maximize space within a suitcase. And if you’re concerned about wrinkling any items, lay the article of clothing on top of your other belongings and tuck your rolled up pieces along the sides and in the middle of the bag.

Go neutral

On business trips, black is the friend of any business traveler. Ditch the colors and go for neutrals that match everything so you can pack less. The goal is to bring pieces that you can easily mix, match, and layer to create a number of different outfits. Bottom line: go for basic styles and basic colors.

Consider carry-ons

If you don’t check bags, there’s less room for mishaps and more room for time. Whether you have to deal with flight delays, cancelled connections, or lost luggage – checking a bag can definitely hold you back. Instead, aim to bring a carry-on.

Ship ahead or print

Instead of hauling your presentation materials with you on the road, print your materials once you arrive or ship them to your hotel ahead of time. Whichever option you choose, contact your hotel to confirm there are printing centers or that they hold packages for guests so you won’t be caught in a sticky situation later.
