Five Autumnal Cocktails to Make at Home This Season

During the season when seemingly nothing goes untouched by pumpkin spice, why not add some fall flavors to your cocktails as well? Whether your autumnal drink of choice is cider, bourbon, whiskey or something else, it’s always five o’clock somewhere. Best of all, you don’t need many ingredients or fancy equipment to concoct the perfect seasonal potion at home. Try one of these festive fall cocktails on a crisp evening — or afternoon, if it’s been one of those days.

1. Kentucky Mulled Cider

Move over, mulled wine. Whip up this warm cider beverage instead.

INGREDIENTS

• 25 oz bourbon
• 8 oz hot apple cider
• Dash of allspice
• Tall cinnamon stick
• Lemon slice

Add bourbon to a mug. Pour in hot apple cider and add a dash of allspice. Garnish with cinnamon stick and lemon slice.

2. Caramel Apple Moscow Mule

Apple and caramel flavors pair perfectly with the ginger beer in this fall take on a Moscow mule.

INGREDIENTS

• 5 oz caramel vodka (or substitute regular vodka and 1 Tbsp caramel sauce)
• 3 oz apple cider
• 3 oz ginger beer
• Juice of ½ lime
• Slice of apple

Pour all ingredients into a glass or copper mug with ice and stir to combine. Garnish with apple slice.

3. Maple Bourbon Old Fashioned

It’s risky to mess with a classic old fashioned, but substituting maple syrup for sugar adds a nice seasonal twist.

INGREDIENTS

• 2 oz bourbon
• 2 tsp maple syrup
• 1 tsp water
• 1 dash bitters
• 1 orange peel
• 1 maraschino cherry

Combine maple syrup, water and bitters in a glass and stir until well blended. Add ice and the orange peel, then pour in bourbon. Garnish with the cherry.

4. Apple Cider Mimosas

Spice up a fall brunch by serving this delicious excuse to drink before noon. Makes four mimosas.

INGREDIENTS

• 1 bottle champagne
• 8 oz apple cider
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

On a small plate, combine sugar and cinnamon. Dip champagne flute rims in water, then dip in cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.

Fill champagne flutes a quarter of the way full with apple cider, then top off with champagne.

5. Cranberry Orange Margarita

Margaritas aren’t just for summertime. This one combines the classic fall flavors of orange and cranberry.

INGREDIENTS

• Kosher salt
• 2 oz silver tequila
• ¼ cup orange juice
• ½ cup cranberry juice
• 5 oz orange liqueur
• Splash of fresh lime juice
• Cranberries, orange wedges and/or fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish

Pour kosher salt onto a small plate. Dip the rim of a glass in water, then dip in kosher salt to coat.
