NEW YORK CITY

Chelsea

Chelsea, home to the Furnished Quarters head office, is decidedly the new SoHo.
Chelsea is a mix of old and new.  From the quaint side streets with beautiful Georgia-Style houses that have been preserved by the Chelsea Historic District for their architectural significance, to the gleaming residential towers that dot the skyline.  Chelsea has usurped SoHo as the Manhattan’s “contemporary-art-gallery headquarters”.  Galleries abound along the western edge of Chelsea, housed in huge converted warehouses, easily identified by their glass-and-stainless-steel doors.  Chelsea is also known as one of the most ethnically and culturally diverse neighborhoods in Manhattan with housing ranging from large-scale residential building complexes to newly constructed hi-rise condominiums.  Residents are treated to world class dining, shopping and culture in Chelsea.

The Arts

With nearly 200 art galleries Chelsea is the new home of New York Art.  In fact, from 22nd Street to 26th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues, you will find a gallery in nearly every store front. And as home of FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) Chelsea is sure to remain the place to create and display the art of New York for years to come.  The Museum of Art at FIT and the Chelsea Art Museum are great places to kick off your Chelsea art tour.

Dining

While Del Posto, the newest edition to the Batali-Bastianich empire, is one of the hottest restaurants in the area it is certainly not the only one.  A decidedly residential area, Chelsea is home to all variations of culture and cuisine.  With hundreds of small bistros and large trendy club-like restaurants, such as Buddakan, Chelsea is a must-visit for “foodies” from around the world.  Other former warehouses, unremarkable by day, pulsate through the night as the city's hottest nightclubs.

Recreation

One of New York’s best public spaces is located in Chelsea: the High Line — a 1-mile (1.6 km) New York City Park built on a 1.45-mile (2.33 km) section of an elevated freight railroad line which has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway, a sanctuary to New Yorkers and tourists looking for a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle below.  Chelsea is also home to Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex, home of CBS College Sports Network and Food Network, as well as great recreational facilities.  Features include a health club, day spa, the city's largest training center for gymnastics, two basketball courts, indoor soccer and lacrosse fields with leagues starting all the time, baseball and softball batting cages, a rock climbing wall, dance studios, AMF Bowling center, a golf club with two-story driving range, and two full sized ice skating rinks.
