Battery Park City, Wall Street & the Financial District
Located in the southern most section of Manhattan, this area is known around the world for its landmarks, including the 9/11 Memorial, Trinity Church, The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, as well as the Corporate Headquarters for financial institutions such as The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ.
Battery Park, with its panoramic views and open space is an enclave to the hustle and bustle normally associated with Manhattan. On weekdays the park draws sunbathers and outdoor enthusiasts as well as the common site of children and dogs using the play areas and dog runs.
Wall Street is located in the Financial District and is teeming with business people during the week and an oasis from the jammed streets normally associated with the area on the weekend. Also located in the Financial District is the South Street Seaport, which offers great dining and shopping and is a popular destination for visitors wishing to take a tour to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island or a ride on a replica schooner that sailed around Manhattan Island during the 19th century.
The Arts
There are plenty of attractions in the area for Art enthusiasts including The National Museum of the American Indian, George Gustav Heye Center, which is located adjacent to the northeast corner of Battery Park or The New Museum a leading destination for new art and new ideas and Manhattan's only dedicated contemporary art museum; respected internationally for the adventurousness and global scope of its curatorial program.
Dining
Downtown Manhattan has a limitless supply of dining options. From the new Asian-accented French cuisine of SHO Shaun Hergatt—Shaun was awarded New York’s Best New Chef award in 2009—to neighborhood favorites like P.J. Clarke’s for a great burger, you are sure to find a restaurant that suits your taste.
Recreation
There is always plenty to do in the enclave; from the wide open green space of Battery Park to all of the attractions, such as City Hall, the NYSE and the South Street Seaport, as well as magnificent museums like the Ellis Island Museum or the Skyscraper Museum. The myriad of activities seems endless.
